What is World Hearing Day?
World Hearing Day, held on March 3rd every year, was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) to bring awareness on how to reduce and prevent hearing loss and improve hearing care worldwide. Every year the World Health Organization comes up with a theme that aims to create awareness on hearing care.
Is there a Theme?
The theme for 2019 is Check Your Hearing, something that couldn’t be more relevant. It is important that individuals who are at a higher risk of hearing loss get their hearing checked annually. Those who are at a higher risk for hearing problems includes individuals over the age of 55, those who work with heavy machinery, and those who listen to headphones frequently. In addition to getting your hearing checked annually, there are other things you can do to preserve your hearing: avoid listening to headphones at a high volume, use ear plugs when around heavy machinery, and more.
It is important to make sure that people with hearing problems to access rehabilitation services and the communication tools. A hearing tool that you can use if you have a hearing problem is available such as a cochlear implant. Cochlear implant helps to boost the hearing and can be very useful. Additionally, there are several hearing aids on the market that can help you preserve your hearing.
